Synopsis: 
Personal opinion: Conrad and Asta Nielsen make an interesting pairing in a dramatic film, that reflects part of the problems that appeared after WWI. It also brings into attention the nightlife, the atmosphere in cabarets and the immorality of those difficult times, that affected so much the people’s behaviour and attitude towards family and society. “Der Reigen” is a realistic film, that shows the risks one has to take in his or her life, the mistakes and radical decisions that make one feel trapped in his or her own body. It is a film about characters, about people, about fate, and its story shoudn’t be taken as a typical depiction of “The Merry-Go-Round” (like the English title says), but as a lesson or a fresco of the nation’s moral decline.
